WHAT IS OBESITY?
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines obesity and overweight as the “abnormal or excessive accumulation of fat that can be harmful to health.”
A person is considered obese if their body mass index (BMI) is 30 or higher. The BMI is calculated using height and weight. For example, a 5-foot-9-inch adult weighing 203 pounds will have a BMI of 30, which places this person in the obese category.
